Dean of the School of Medicine

Dear Future Doctor!

On behalf of our team, many congratulations on your success in gaining a place on the Liverpool MBChB programme. It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the School of Medicine as you begin your exciting journey as a student doctor.

As a School that has been producing medical professionals for almost 190 years, we are dedicated to supporting your path to becoming a skilled, confident and compassionate doctor. You can look forward to being led and supported by expert teaching staff, developing your skills through state-of-the-art technologies and belonging to a diverse community of students, staff and clinicians.

You will have access to uniquely rich range of NHS Trust hospitals across the North West, undertaking placements that will equip you with new skills, knowledge and accomplishments to carry forward with you into your medical career.

You Peer Mentors are getting ready to welcome you in your first week. They’ll become a friendly face to recognise as you settle in, and I am sure that you will make the most of their support, advice and guidance as you navigate a new campus.

As our newest students, you can explore the remarkable achievements and major highlights of your peers through the inspirational stories on our School news page - I hope to see your names amongst these in the years to come!

Indeed, 2024 is a wonderful time to be joining us, as the University was recently awarded Gold for the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), recognising our excellence in student experience and outcomes.

Our Admissions team have guided you through the application process and you will continue to be supported by the Year 1 team, who will be in touch with you with practical tips on how to prepare for your arrival in Liverpool.

We will also contact you with further details of the events arranged by our medical student societies. Whatever your interest, from sports to medical specialties, music and acting, you can meet our vibrant societies at our Medical Societies Fair and get involved as soon as you arrive.

I look forward to meeting you personally during the variety of Welcome Week activities on campus and to getting to know you through many of our School-led events.

As Welcome Week approaches, we look forward to giving you a smooth transition into University and School life and setting you off on the best foot for a rewarding, successful and enjoyable journey.

If you have any questions regarding the information sent to you by the School, please do get in touch with us via year1mbchb@liverpool.ac.uk and we will be happy to help.

Congratulations again on achieving a place on our programme. I very much look forward to welcoming you to the School in person in September.
