As part of their 150 year anniversary celebrations, the LMSS welcomed alumni to a dinner at Liverpool’s World Museum this March. Present Secretary and incoming President Kieran Banner shares more on the reunion to end all reunions!
This month the LMSS celebrated its 150th anniversary in style, with an anniversary dinner held at the World Museum in Liverpool. It was an absolute honour to be able to attend as the 150th Secretary of the society, and to have the opportunity to talk to alumni spanning many decades of the society's history.
This year we have been exceptionally fortunate to have Professor Averil Mansfield as the Honorary President of the society. Prof Mansfield is probably most well known for being the first British woman to be appointed a professor of surgery. Having graduated from the LMSS in 1960 it was a pleasure to have her back, reflecting on her fond memories of the society and her incredible life since.
Although the night of celebrations may now be over, the memories and the legacy of 150 years of the LMSS lives on, and I couldn't be prouder of everything that the society continues to accomplish. As I finish my term as Secretary and move into my term as the 151st President of the society I hope to help kickstart the next 150 years of growth for the society, providing students with unforgettable memories and friendships for life.
Congratulations guys! Head to the LMSS website to learn more about the UK’s oldest and largest medical student society.
