On a wet and windy Sunday in November, Liverpool Medical School Performing Arts Society Artefacts brought warmth and joy to the city with their annual Variety Show. Held under the banner of inclusivity and creativity, the afternoon was a dazzling showcase of talent, camaraderie, and charitable giving.
The performances were more diverse than ever. The Artefacts choir, directed by Chinonso Nzewuji, captivated the audience with three soulful pieces, including a moving rendition of "Remember Me" from Disney's Coco. Drama director Bibi Adesanya collaborated with band leaders Daniel Lam and Sophie Crawford to recreate an energetic number from the hit musical Mean Girls. The band then took centre stage with a rousing ABBA medley that had the audience humming and tapping their feet.
Artefacts’ dancers, led by Emily Dean and Kieran Banner, delivered an enchanting visual treat, including a delightful ‘miscast' duet from their upcoming musical Shrek, set to take the stage from the 3rd to the 5th of April 2025 at the Eleanor Rathbone Theatre. A memorable highlight of the afternoon was a spirited group karaoke session of "I’m a Believer," where the entire audience joined in, dancing and singing before indulging in a well-deserved coffee and cake break.
Solo performances from Som Dhulipala, Joshua Lim, Vivien Wong, and Charu Ravikumar showcased instrumental brilliance, adding a personal and heartfelt touch to the program.
Alongside all the performances a charity raffle raised nearly £200 for Islamic Relief UK and Liverpool’s leading homeless and housing charity, The Whitechapel Centre.
Reflecting on the success of the event, Artefacts Presidents Kieran Banner and Emily Dean said,
Thank you to everyone who came to support Artefacts Variety Show 2024 and our charity raffle! All the performers excelled themselves, and it was wonderful to bring joy to an otherwise rainy November afternoon. We’re so excited for the rest of the events this year, including Charity Strictly in collaboration with the LMSS and our annual musical Shrek in April. Hoping to see lots of familiar faces there!
As the crowd left with smiles and memories, it was clear that Artefacts cemented its reputation as an incredible society for creativity and community spirit.
