As we’re now officially into the season of gratitude, don’t miss out on the chance to give your thanks and recognition to someone you know who has made a difference this term.
Whether it’s on the MBChB programme itself, through their extra-curricular commitments or society activities, we know there are students who routinely go above and beyond day in, day out.
This year, the LMSS have launched their new Student Shout Out scheme to help capture some of these noteworthy acts. It couldn’t be easier to put someone forward via the short and sweet Google Form, with prizes up for grabs each term.
LMSS President Maddie Upham says,
We launched the shout out to recognise the amazing things students are doing on top of their studies and it’s been fantastic to read the entries so far. Keep them coming!
LivPsych are also doing their bit to help you spotlight someone special. You’ll soon spot a Gratitude Box in the Student Hub at Cedar House. Take a moment to pop in a mention and special message for someone you have spotted who you’d like to say thanks to. It's sure to make their day!
Mustafa Saquib, Y5 Rep for LivPsych says,
Given the shorter days and the festive period, we thought a gratitude box would be a nice, positive way to end the term. Research has shown that expressing gratitude in this way can have significant benefits for wellbeing, and as the Psychiatry Society, one of our core commitments is supporting the mental wellbeing of students within the school. We believe this is one small way we can contribute before the term ends.
Of course, you also have the option of nominating a peer for a Spirit of Liverpool School of Medicine Prize, launching for 24-25 in the new year.
You may have caught our coverage of the recent Prize Evening, or are Student Spotlights on the 23-24 Spirit winners Emily Kelly and Emmanuella Adu. It's a wonderful way to celebrate and honour those who are really pulling out all the stops – they deserve all the fuss, don’t they?
Even if they miss out on the prize win, did you know that many of the amazing students nominated for a Spirit Prize are awarded a commendation?
Nikesh Someswaran was put forward by his peers for exceptional leadership as Course Rep and his kindness, compassion and inclusivity in fostering a sense of community and belonging.
On receiving the commendation, Nikesh said, “I thought Course Rep would be a great way to get to know other students and widen your own perspective on matters regarding medicine. It was a great experience liaising with the staff from the School especially with the Year Directors who were always understanding.
Over my two years as Course Rep I was able to help make a few changes. Whether that be changing the order of blocks for second year or and moving RS3 to an earlier time of year. I also made recommendations for changes on PebblePad to make student's lives easier on placement which led to student declarations now automatically being attached to the correct area."
I would say to always take up any opportunity as you'll never know if you will enjoy it until you try it!
Pop a name into the LMSS Student Shout Out Google Form or LivPsych gratitude box and show someone you see and appreciate all they do. Keep a look out for more on the 24-25 School Prizes after Winter Break.
