Prize winners and their special guests gathered at Cedar House this November to celebrate their outstanding accomplishments in the 23-24 academic year. Yes, it’s Prize Evening time!
Each year, School Prizes are awarded for achievements across a range of areas within the course curriculum, including top assessment performances, stand-out projects and learning resources and outstanding contributions to the student experience.
The evening got off to a musical start with a fantastic performance from the School’s very own performing arts society, Artefacts. Huge thanks to Kieran Banner and Ciara Merriman who were brilliant, as always!
Dean of the School of Medicine, Professor Hazel Scott, noted in her welcome address how the School was looking to the future and the part it will play in meeting the challenges and demands of caring for our nation’s patients.
“Work has begun on transforming the site of the now ‘old’ Royal Hospital into a health sciences campus where our student doctors will work alongside dentists, nurses and other health professionals in training echoing the multi-disciplinary teams they will be a part of once they enter clinical practice."
These teams will do the work of caring for many of us and they remind us of the teamwork behind each and every accomplishment in our lives, the prizes we will award tonight included.
The audience joined together in a round of applause for all of the friends, family members and mentors who supported students in their achievements celebrated on the evening.
Hosts Dr Iain Young, Vice Dean for Student Experience, and Bee Collier, Director of Assessment and Feedback, did a great job, as ever, in announcing winners as they collected their certificates and medals.
It was great to catch up with students, graduates and guests at the reception afterwards, which included plenty of photo opportunities and lots of proud parents! Take a look at the 23-24 Prize Evening Photo Album for some very photogenic highlights.
Well done to all of our winners! A complete list of whom is available in the 23-24 prize winners news story.
