As a sea of caps and gowns descended upon the Metropolitan Cathedral, our fantastic School of Medicine graduands prepared for their proudest moment yet – graduation.
For many, it was hard to believe the day had finally arrived. As the sun shone, guests took their seats and the procession music began, it was time to reflect on five years of medical study and celebrate the next generation of doctors.
Alongside our incredible graduates were the staff, family and friends who supported them along the way, cheering them on as they embark on the next stage of their journey as Foundation Year doctors.
Graduates and family celebrate the big day
Professor Hazel Scott, Dean of Liverpool School of Medicine, gave a congratulatory speech before announcing this year’s PG and MBChB graduands. Remarking on the milestone achievement, Professor Scott highlighted that the day “marks the culmination of years of study, hard work and steadfast dedication. It is a chance to reflect on the steps you’ve taken that have led you to this very moment.”
We are so proud now to welcome you to this age-old profession and to look forwards as clinical colleagues together, to the big, bright futures that await you and the fascinating developments in medical care that you will shape.
The ceremony, attended by both Medicine and Dentistry graduates, continued with graduates taking the Declaration of Geneva. Led by graduate Helen Nixon, they pledged their lifelong commitment to the medical profession and patient care.
This year’s Graduate Speaker, Matthew Heneghan, concluded the ceremony, delivering a heartwarming and inspiring speech to his fellow peers. He gave thanks to those who have supported their student doctor journey, highlightling that the day was just as much for them as it was for graduates.
Thank you to Professor Scott, all the staff at the School of Medicine and the NHS trusts who have skilfully directed us through our degrees. Thank you to the patients who have so graciously given their time to allow us to become the physicians and dentists we graduate as today. Last but not least, thank you also, to our family, friends, partners and guardians, including those unable to be here today.
