LMS FC celebrate their achievements with Professor Hazel Scott

Liverpool Medical School Football Club has enjoyed an extraordinary year, maintaining an unbeaten record and winning a quadruple of impressive titles.

Their journey includes becoming NAMS champions, clinching the Campus Cup and Campus League and triumphing at the recent NAMS day tournament in Manchester. This tournament featured medical football teams from across the UK playing tournament style games and knockout rounds until a winner was crowned.

Captains of the 1st team Casey Lee and Makarious Naguib are thrilled with the team’s achievements and the awards are a testament to all the players involved:

“Liverpool medical school FC has had our most successful year ever. Winning two national titles, the domestic double and managing to remain unbeaten across the year has filled us with enormous pride.

Achievements like this will bond us for life and is more important than the titles we have won. We’re already talking about our 50-year walking football reunion match!

We have faced so many challenges across the year. The semi-final against Birmingham was our toughest match and the team had to dig deep and find a different way to win. It was great we had the support of so many fellow students who came down to watch.

Another huge challenge was at the tournament over the weekend. We were the favourites to win, and that added pressure can sometimes break players, but the team embraced it and won the tournament without conceding a goal. After our success the GB Medics Football Team came up to Liverpool to play us to prepare for the medic World Cup in Australia. We gave them a tough match and came away with a 2-2 draw.

As captains we would say our proudest achievement is managing to have a squad with a wide representation of different ages and backgrounds.

It helps that we all get along so well and share the same opinions on how we want to play the game. We’ve wanted to play high intensity football and we’ve had quality players who have delivered in big moments. One of our greatest strengths has been our defensive unit who have led us courageously to our four trophies! Overall, it’s not been a bad year for the club and hopefully plenty more trophies in the coming years!”

LMSS Sport Secretary James Evennett-Bowker praised the team who have helped create the best season in the history of the club:

During this season the team has shown impressive resilience, teamwork and organisation.

"The team is a combination of year 1-5 students who have worked tirelessly together all season. Special mention goes to Captains Casey Lee and Makarious Naguib, and Presidents Cameron Buchanan and Filip Skierski. Moving forward the club hopes to build on the success of this season and hopes to host the NAMS tournament next year."

Congratulations to the players for their hard work and determination during their impressive (and invincible) year!
