On a glorious sunny Saturday, a small group of medical students completed the Wirral 100km cycle challenge – and it was no small feat!

Each year, the cycle challenge takes place and takes participants from the Wirral and across the River Mersey for to the finish line in Liverpool. This year, LMSS Charities worked hard to organise the event, all in aid of charities KIND and Claire House.

It was full steam ahead for our cyclists who were on the road for a total of around nine hours – with a few snack stops along the way. Charity reps Aidan Hegarty and Conor Fogarty reflect on how they conquered the day, explaining:

Starting off from Birkenhead, we headed for Ellesmere Port while stopping at Claire House along the way for a nice catchup with one of our sponsored charities over the last year, before settling in Chester for lunch out in the blazing heat.

We then took the scenic route along the boardwalks of the Burton Marsh, taking us north-west to the town of West Kirby.

Finally, the challenge was finished after a cruise along the north coast past Leasowe and New Brighton.

After an eventful day filled with chain malfunctions, cramps and navigation errors, the group of seven, sunburnt students made it home in one piece!
