The winners of our School of Medicine Prizes were celebrated this week at our annual prize-giving ceremony to acknowledge their achievements during the 2022-23 academic year - and what a night it was!
Each year, School Prizes are awarded for student achievement across a range of areas within the course curriculum, whether it be producing a high-quality learning resource, excellence in assessments or making outstanding contributions to the student experience. This year, we were thrilled to be joined by both our winners and their guests and to share this special occasion.
Starting off the jubilations, student doctor Hania Haq gave a beautiful singing performance of So in Love from last year’s Artefacts Kiss Me Kate show and drew rousing applause.
The ceremony began with a welcome address from the Dean of the School of Medicine, Professor Hazel Scott, who celebrated the dedication, compassion and ability our prize winners have shown. These skills will undoubtedly help shape them into the inspiring doctors we know they’ll become.
“I have witnessed the courage of our student doctors, and I am incredibly proud of how they rise to challenges, support their peers and show personal strength. Their enthusiastic spirit for learning has driven them to excel in their studies and is an inspiration to all of us.”
Of course, a special mention was given to the prize winners’ guests for their continued support and words of encouragement to our student doctors throughout their medical journey.
To present the awards, we were delighted to have hosts Dr Iain Young, Vice Dean for Risk and Student Experience, and Bee Collier, Director of Assessment and Feedback.
No celebration is complete without some canapes and drinks, so winners, guests and staff were welcomed at a reception in our student hub. Everyone was in high spirits, and it was a wonderful chance to mingle with other attendees and reflect on their achievements. There was also a quick photo opportunity with smiles all round!
Our winners noted their enjoyment of the evening’s celebrations. Shivani said:
"I really enjoyed my time at the prize evening. It was lovely seeing all the other prize winners and celebrating this moment with my family. I am very thankful for this opportunity."
Sara, currently an F1 doctor returning to Cedar House, noted:
“It’s been a really lovely night and nice to come back and see everyone to celebrate everyone’s achievement. Thank you for having us!”
