Student Spotlights pass the mic to our student doctors, to hear their take on their School experience and shine the light on a particular role, team or pathway through the School of Medicine.

Student Doctor and GP Society President Brooklyn Wright is in her final year of the MBChB programme.

In this video interview, she recalls her first impressions of Liverpool when she stepped off the train from Chesterfield and caught a taxi up the hill to campus.

“To be honest, from the moment of jumping into the taxi and meeting the cab driver, I was partly sold by that. He was so open and lovely."

He said to me, If you’ve got any troubles in Liverpool if a Scouser is around the corner you’ll be alright.

Brooklyn chose to defer her offer and spent a year out tutoring and working at a school and in care work, before spending a month travelling around South America, including a stint in an animal sanctuary helping rehabilitate sloths for release back into the wild.

Since joining us, Brooklyn has thrived in her studies and especially out on placement, relishing the learning opportunities provided by the patients she has cared for.

“Getting to interact with people on a daily basis – there are so many different opportunities. You don’t know who’s going to come through the door. Patients are valuable learning tools."

I’ve met some absolutely incredibly people and learnt so many things about the world, I've had so many opportunities presented to me, and they have all come from patients.

Brroklyn's passion for General Practice was born out of an appreciation for a broad range of knowledge and interests.

That’s the thing about General Practice, when I've been on placement there I have gone from seeing a 100-year patient to a six-week old baby in the space of ten minutes.

"I just think it is absolutely incredible that we see right from one end of the spectrum to another.”
