This month the School came out in force to welcome 335 student doctors to Year One of the MBChB course with a series of welcome activities to help students settle into their new Liverpool home.

Alongside a fantastic programme of University welcome events, students also took part in small group sessions to get to know each other and the School teams that will be supporting them in their studies, including team building exercises where students got to show off their resourcefulness and creativity.

Year Director Dr Kevin Hamill says, “It was great getting to meet our newest student doctors over the last two weeks. I hope you enjoyed yourself too! We certainly have been impressed, entertained and amused by the many different submissions to the Impress the Dean task! Getting to know you was just the beginning, now we are excited to see how you develop as you progress through the course.”

A Walking Tour on and around campus allowed students to get to know their Peer Mentors, student doctors from higher year groups who will help guide them throughout their first year with us.

Peer Mentor Megan McDonagh is in Year 4. She says, “My aim is to help first years settle in and to really get them to feel comfortable on campus. We’ll be reaching out to students during times that we think they might be a little bit stressed or the pressure is getting a bit high. Students in older groups are the best people to go to if you ever need any advice, we’ve all been there!”

Year Two Student Doctors Emmanuella Adu and Osagioduwa Obasyi took the time to record some messages of support, offering their top tips on everything from how to stay organised to where to grab lunch on campus.

The School was delighted to partner with Liverpool Guild of Students this year on a dedicated Medical Societies Fair at Mountford Hall. This event showcased the vast range of societies run by student doctors here at the University of Liverpool and gave students the chance to get to know a bit about the upcoming events and initiatives they can get involved with through these passionate student groups.
