Join the School Wellbeing Team and LivPysch Society at Cedar House on Wednesday 4th May for an afternoon dedicated to supporting student doctors in taking control of their mental wellbeing as we prepare for exam season.
Running from 15.00 until 19.00, the action-packed schedule involves mindfulness sessions, soothe your mind exercises, de-stress workshops and a range of fun drop-in activities. Register via the Med Extra events calendar to book your place.
Student Doctor Laura Vernon is one of LivPsych’s Wellbeing Representatives involved in running the event.
“We’re looking forward to seeing you there to take part in a fun-packed agenda that includes Therapy Dogs(!) and drop-ins where you can get involved with VR dogs, gardening, origami and colouring.
Entertainment is provided by Artefacts and there will be plenty of free food and drink available.”
A big part of LivPsych Society is about facilitating conversations around mental health and supporting student wellbeing throughout their time at University.
Laura says, “Alongside joining us at the event in May, you can reach out to the School Wellbeing team at any time if you are in need of support. Other support tools we recommend are NHS mental health services, My Healthy Advantage app (free through the University) and Headspace Guides on Netflix."
Director of MBChB Wellbeing Service Alison Threlfall shares more about what’s in store.
“We knew we wanted to include a visit from Therapy Dogs Nationwide as this was by far the most highly rated area of previous wellbeing activities we ran in June 2019 as part of a revision day for Year Four.
It has been estimated that around 60% of UK homes now have a pet, and many students tell us they miss interacting with theirs especially when stress levels are raised around exam time.
The students loved being able to interact with the dogs and found it to be an excellent stress busting distraction from revision – so we knew we had to have them back."
Keegan has been helping at Sheffield Children’s Hospital to show the children that the equipment isn’t scary.

Keegan helped out in X-ray, ultrasound and also the CT scanner.

"What else can you expect from the event? LivPysch will be putting on plenty of ‘crafty’ stress-minimising activities, alongside our ever popular ‘Soothe Your Mind’ sessions by MindPool Coach Pip Bellis.
Why not give it a go and pick up some relaxation techniques to give you the edge in your assessments.
To round things off, we will have a student-led ‘Be Free’ workshop to give you additional techniques to boost your wellbeing. All in all, a fantastic way to improve your wellbeing and take some time away from study!”
