Student Doctors Mahima Bharadwaj and Jessica Lwin have just helped raise over £6k with a Myanmar Food Festival in light of the humanitarian crisis in Myanmar, with all proceeds donated to the UK-based charity Brighter Future Foundation, which actively provides medical relief to the people in Myanmar.
Mahima is Secretary of the University of Liverpool’s Humanitarian Society which works to connect people and organisations, spread awareness and fundraise around international relief and development.
Mahima says, “We are grateful to Rice over everything for catering and helping raise donations. The festival also welcomed Burmese vendors who set up stalls to sell handmade merchandise and traditional Burmese dishes.
Burmese vendors ran stalls at the event, which raised over £6000 for charity
As we started advertising the event, several members from the Burmese community across the North West and Midlands approached us, expressing their gratitude and interest in attending the event
This motivated us to take it a step forward. We launched pre-orders, an online campaign on GoFundMe and set up a raffle! All of this has helped us raised more than £6000, a lot more than we had initially hoped to raise.
A raffle helped raise funds in support of the people of Myanmar
We plan to host a few more events over the course of this year and next to continue to raise funds for Myanmar and Ukraine. We would like to take this opportunity to ask anyone who is keen to fundraise for a particular cause to contact us via our social channels. We would be delighted to work together!”
