MPhil Student Doctor Conor Gillespie recently had the honour of seeing his first-authored article 'Inspiring the Next Generation' published in the Lancet Neurology.
The article was written in response to the SBNS/NANSIG 10th Annual Neurosurgery Careers Day, which Conor led and was attended by 250 people from over 20 countries.
Student doctors across the country were able to view practical demonstrations during the SBNS/NANSIG 10th Annual Neurosurgery Careers Day.
The event was held on the 31st January 2021, and was held virtually for the first time this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Featuring internationally renowned keynote Professors of Neurosurgery, Neurosurgery CV clinics, participants could have a one to one discussion with a neurosurgeon to talk about the application process, as well as student poster and oral presentations.
There was also advice about careers outside of practice during the event.
Conor said:
The feedback from the event was highly positive, including that it increased perception of female and ethnic minority participation in Neurosurgery events, which is paramount to NANSIG's aims in increasing accessibility and diversity in Neurosurgery, and we were delighted to highlight this in our recent publication in the Lancet Neurology.
