Clinical Skills Lecturer Christinah Makondo was delighted to bump into a couple of familiar faces when she attended her appointment at Woodchurch Leisure Centre, where student doctors Sophia Hart and Joe Massias were supporting the vaccination programme.
"As someone who is clinically vulnerable to COVID, I was offered a vaccine through my GP, which was administered by Joe. I was very impressed by his professionalism, skills and technique. Sophia was in the post vaccination room and addressed everyone so politely, and with a big smile on her face. I am so proud that our students are helping my local community to overcome this pandemic." — Clinical Skills Lecturer Christinah Makondo

"Patients are so grateful and actually often quite emotional about the significance of finally getting the vaccine. It’s a sign of better things to come for a lot of people and it's lovely to be a part of that." — Student Doctor Sophia Hart
Student Doctor Joe Massias
"I've enjoyed working with the staff, both clinical and non-clinical, seeing how they do things and learning from them. Many patients walk through the door with a smile of excitement, knowing that their wait to be vaccinated is about to end. Being a vaccinator has shown me the value of being kind, especially at the moment, where many people have been affected by the events in the last year in ways you might not realise." — Student Doctor Joe Massias

Student doctors from Years 3 to 5 currently have the option of taking on additional hours outside of their normal NHS training hours. The School and NHS partners are working together to ensure they can do so safely and efficiently.
