Whether it’s finding COVID-kicking joy in the creative arts, adopting innovative problem-solving techniques, or exploring new and inventive ways of supporting each other, this year has certainly shown all of us the power of creativity.
And there is plenty of that on show at the School of Medicine, with students and staff alike going above and beyond to connect, progress and excel.
New online teaching resources, e-signatures for portfolios, ZOOM competitions, online buddy meetings and out of hours wellbeing sessions are amongst the things that have arisen when we were challenged to think differently. Many may continue to enhance our community in future years and it will be good to work with you and your reps to explore what have been the best bits to keep.
Similarly, like many of you, I thoroughly enjoyed the display of talent, good humour, and clever use of IT, that was presented by our wonderful Artefacts Society’s first ‘Virtual Variety Show’. Many congratulations to them for achieving such a superb fund-raising result!
Perhaps through channelling our creativity, we will grow confidence in the opportunity that change can present, and continue to find new pleasure and success when we have the courage to try new ideas.
It would be lovely to have more of your stories of the different ways you are connecting and enjoying contributing to our School community, or to that around us. Please do drop us a note to mednews@liverpool.ac.uk.
Wishing you all well as we complete the final stages of this interesting term together.

Dean of the School of Medicine
