Whilst the phrase ‘PPE’ is on the lips of many people who previously were unfamiliar with the term this year – student doctors have always been aware of just how important the role of attire can be in protecting yourself, and your patients. And never more so than when on a surgery placement.
Last year, Liverpool student doctors let us know that there was a need for easy access to disposable headscarves as part of the medics uniform, and in January 2020, we were proud to make that happen (View the story in The Pulse, Jan 20).
The School offers free disposable headscarves, suitable for surgery placement, to all our student doctors. The headscarves are available in packs of 3 or 5 and can be collected from the front desk in Cedar House - even during lockdown! You can pick yours up anytime between 9-5, Monday to Friday. (If you are stopping by Cedar House, please just remember to wear a face mask, and adhere to the University’s social distancing guidelines whilst you are on campus – thank you.)
Student Doctor, Rhema Otache recently let the School know how happy she was with her pack on Twitter. We caught up with Rhema who said,
Picking up the surgical scarves was a stress-free process. Once I found out they were available, I sent an email to the Year 3 admin team. Within a couple of days, they replied, telling me to pick up the scarves at Cedar house. That was it.
Rhema is proud of her role as Vice President of the BME Medics Society, which aims to create a community in which students of Black and Ethnic minority groups can share experiences and learn together. They are currently busy planning a Christmas edition of their ‘Escape the Zoom’ event, together with the Help the Homeless Society in order to raise money for Mary Seacole House and The South Liverpool Foodbank. Get your ticket via the Guild.
We would like to remind all our students that we are always open to your suggestions of actions we can take, and changes we can make as a School, in order to enhance your experience at Liverpool.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with your Year’s Admin team, the Wellbeing team or anyone in the School you trust to raise an issue with. You can find their details via the email directory or the wellbeing support page.
