Wellbeing support over Christmas

Published on

As we approach the Christmas holiday break, as well as wishing you all the best for the Christmas break and a happy new year, we also wanted to update you on a new wellbeing service within the University and arrangements for the School of Medicine wellbeing service over the holiday period.

New video call counselling service: The Mind Map

The University student services team have developed a new service providing mental health support in partnership with The Mind Map.

The service offers on-line counselling support through video calls. Appointments are available weekdays between 5pm and 10pm. The service is available to all students, including those studying off campus on clinical placement.

Further information is available on the University website.

School of Medicine Wellbeing Team

We have both wellbeing academics within the School of Medicine and Wellbeing Advisors from the University Student Welfare Advice & Guidance team. If there is anything we can help with in the School of Medicine wellbeing team, please get in touch. Email: wellbeing.mbchb@liverpool.ac.uk, telephone 0151 794 8756 or drop into the Wellbeing Office in room 2.26 in Cedar House.

Christmas holiday arrangements

The School Wellbeing office will be closed after Friday 20th December 2019 until re-opening for the start of term on Monday 6th January 2020.

You can find the Christmas Opening Hours for University services on the student intranet.

If you require emergency help during the University closure over Christmas period, there are options available:

  • Always call 999 if you require emergency help. If you need help, but it’s not an emergency, visit nhs.uk or call 111.
  • If you are on campus and require immediate assistance you can call Campus Support on 0151 794 3252 (or 43252 from internal phone).
  • If you are ill and unable to get an appointment with your GP, you can access many of the same services by visiting a Walk In Centre or local pharmacy.
  • For 24-hour help, The Samaritans offer a 24-hour helpline (116 123) and you can find additional support via the Students Against Depression website.
  • Liverpool Light is a mental health café that provides a welcoming and safe space for people experiencing a mental health related crisis. The service is run by trained mental health support staff and operates from 6pm to 12pm, seven days a week, offering an alternative to the use of A&E for people at times of crisis or in need of targeted social support out of hours.
  • SAFE Place Merseyside is the Sexual Assault Referral Centre for the Merseyside area. Offering a service for both males and females who have been sexually assaulted both recently and at any time in the past.

We wish you a safe, and relaxing winter break. Look after yourself! See you next year.
