Simulated learning with a difference

Published on

The RCP building on campus hosted a week of simulated clinical practice, virtual reality and workshops to prepare Year 5 Student Doctors for Foundation Training.

80 expert faculty were in attendance to share their knowledge and experience, comprised of consultants and senior trainee doctors from a range of specialties and across the region. The LivDocSim team were appreciative of everyone's hard work and the great response:

We are delighted with the response from the students and the faculty from across the North West to LivDocSim! The polls and focus groups are telling us that the simulations provided a really authentic experience of working as a junior doctor, and that the other teaching experiences provided lots of useful tips and tricks to help our students make a successful start to working in August.

Thank you to all our Year 5 Student Doctors for a wonderful week and of course, to the 80 expert faculty and Professional Services staff who ensured the smooth running of the event.

For Years 1 - 4, we are taking on board all we have learned from LivDocSim 2019 in order to continue our work to provide innovative education solutions to prepare the modern student doctor. We look forward to what we work on together next!

What the students are saying

“The sim scenarios gave you autonomy to have a go at it. We had a septic patient and you were encouraged to try and manage this patient appropriately and do the correct investigations, to discuss it amongst the team, continuously doing handovers as people kept coming in all the time so it gave you good practice.”

“In terms of these identified factors where people feel unprepared, I think it certainly has ticked a lot of boxes and I’ve really enjoyed the week, it’s been very good.”
