The amount of calories in the average Christmas dinner is 957.
It will take the average person around 1000 minutes to use up that energy, so see your Christmas dinner as fuel for 16.6 hours on the dancefloor, or maybe 2 shifts walking around a hospital when you're back on placement!
By the time most students break up for the holidays on the Friday 21st December, it will have been 130 days and 17 hours since the first Liverpool MBChB students joined us in Liverpool for the 2018/19 academic year.
That's enough time to watch Die Hard 1479 times.
The MBChB Office copy of Gray's Anatomy has 1161 pages. That number is 387 times the amount that Liverpool legends, the Beatles, managed to achieve Christmas no.1. (John, Paul, George and Ringo achieved the top spot in 1963, 1965 and 1967).
822 is the number of houses Santa would need to visit every second if he were (real) and able make all his deliveries - and that's on its way to being almost 3 times the amount of Student Doctors who graduated the MBChB course from Liverpool in 2018! (301, if you’re interested.)
Cautionary tales: festive related injuries
Although many Christmas accidents are quickly shrugged off, more than 80,000 people a year need hospital treatment for injuries such as falls, cuts and burns during the festive period, according to the NHS. Statistics gathered by the National Accident Helpline demonstrate festive hazards can be found everywhere from the kitchen to the January sales -
- 2.6 million people have fallen off a stool or ladder while hanging up decorations
- 600,000 people have burned themselves roasting chestnuts over an open fire
- An average of 400,000 Christmas turkeys have been burned
- 700,000 people have been injured in a sale rush when shopping
And please remember that fairy lights should not be swallowed, and lifting heavy turkeys out the oven can lead to injury! (The Guardian)
Have a safe and happy Christmas 2018 from the School of Medicine team!
