Congratulations to Alice Ismail who won the inaugural EXPRESS project with a video submission of a ‘Teddy Bear Visit to Hospital’.
The judging panel at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital thought that Alice’s content was an excellent example of communicating medical knowledge, particularly to a very young audience, in a format which was engaging and accessible.
The content was also complimented for introducing the reality of visiting a hospital or doctor in a friendly and entertaining manner which could break down the barriers and dispel any fear that a young child may have.
What is the EXPRESS prize?
The EXPRESS project was established on a voluntary pilot basis last year offering all third year students an opportunity to communicate or express a concept/topic related to child health in an accessible format which a child or young person could understand.
In addition to enhancing the child health placement learning objectives it was an opportunity for students to gain recognition and use their creativity to produce useful content, breaking down complex subjects into an accessible format.
We plan to repeat this project during the current academic year and will circulate further communications to medical students in due course.
