A School of Medicine student society has won GP Society of the year, for the second year running.
Two of our Year 5 Student Doctors, Sophie McArthur and Sabrina Carinci who run the Liverpool Student GP Society, presented at the Annual Conference of the Royal College of General Practitioners in Glasgow recently, alongside Dr Anna Ballinger and Dr David Longford.
It was an hour-long session entitled How we can all be the David Attenboroughs of the GP world: Role-Modelling in Medical Training.
Dr David Longford started things off with an introduction, presenting the current thinking on role-modelling in medical education.
"The room was completely full, an audience of around 100 people. Sophie and Sabrina then took over the presentation and did extremely well, presenting in a very professional, interesting and entertaining way their work assessing medical student attitudes to general practice." said Dr Longford of the event.
"Dr Ballinger finished the talk off brilliantly, talking about what we do at Liverpool to promote good role modelling in medical education. There was excellent discussion and questions from the audience afterwards and several people approached all of us after the talk to discuss things further and say well done."
"Dr Ballinger and I were extremely proud of them for their presentation, but also for the excellence of the GP Society which offers our students ongoing opportunities to learn about GP as well as get involved with research and national conferences" added Dr Longford.
The GP Society continued to build on recent successes, following on from last year's award for GP Society of the year - by winning the award once more.
Following the success of their presentation during the day, Sophie and Sabrina then attended the awards ceremony the same evening, collecting the well-deserved accolade as representatives of the Student GP Society.
