Title: In Situ Forming Drug Delivery Systems for Long Acting Treatment

Abstract:

Treating patients with chronic diseases represents a staggering 70% of the NHS’ costs, and is likely to present a significantly increasing burden on healthcare systems in the future. Although chronic disease represents a vast range of conditions, the success of therapeutic treatment for these conditions faces a common challenge: global patient adherence to treatment regimens is typically poor, resulting in increased morbidity and mortality. In this work we seek to use a novel in situ forming drug delivery system to form injectable implants that provide long-term drug release. This long-acting drug delivery would address the issue of poor adherence and improve patient outcomes for chronic disease.
