New PhD studentship in Transcendental Dynamics

The Pure Mathematics Research Cluster within the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Liverpool invites applications for a post-graduate studentship leading to a PhD, starting 1 Aug 2013 (or soon thereafter).

The award is primarily available to students resident in the UK/EU and will pay full tuition fees and a maintenance grant for 3.5 years. The maintenance grant will be at least 13,726 GBP for 2013/14 with rises anticipated in future years. The studentship includes a commitment of up to 6 hours teaching per week.

The successful candidate will be expected to work with Professor Lasse Rempe-Gillen on the project

"Topological Dynamics of Exponential Maps" (concerning the iteration of exponential functions). Prior background knowledge in discrete dynamical systems, complex analysis and point-set topology would be an advantage. The project may involve the opportunity for computer experiments, so some programming skills and background in computer science would be helpful (but not essential). The successful candidate should have or expect to have a first class honours degree in mathematics or a related field. For a description of the proposed research project, see http://pcwww.liv.ac.uk/~lrempe/projects/projects.html. Informal enquiries should be addressed to Professor Rempe-Gillen on 0151 794 4025, email l.rempe@liverpool.ac.uk

The deadline for receiving applications is 5pm of 19th of April 2013.

Please apply online: (http://www.liv.ac.uk/study/postgraduate/applying/online.htm )

Applicants will be contacted and invited to visit to discuss the opportunities available. Please apply online. Mention the GTA in Transcendental Dynamics in the box about possible sources of funding. For general information, please contact Ms Farrell (s.a.farrell@liv.ac.uk).
