Summer internships are usually targeted towards students in their penultimate year of study and are 6 to 12 weeks long. They take place between June and September and the best time to apply is August until January, although places are competitive and can be filled quickly, often on a first come first serve basis. So it is best to get your applications in as soon as they open. Internships are often paid and companies will look for students who have achieved a 2:1 in first year. Our Institute for Financial and Actuarial Mathematics also offer summer research internships (see video above) that include an end of project presentation event at our University of Liverpool in London campus.
Applying for an internship gives you great job application experience. If you are successful in gaining an internship and make a good impression then you may even be offered a graduate role.
