Transforming Industries Inward Mission visits MIF

A delegation of Indian businesses and organisations visited the University of Liverpool as part of an Innovate UK inward mission to the Liverpool City Region.
The aim of the mission was for Indian organisations operating in the Foundation Industries to form partnerships with UK business to discuss areas of cooperation and is aligned to an upcoming bilateral funding opportunity with a focus on sustainability challenges and solutions.
Professor Anthony Hollander, Pro Vice Chancellor for Research & Impact at the University of Liverpool, welcomed the mission to the University’s Materials Innovation Factory.
The delegation from India was made up of large conglomerates operating in cement, glass, steel and other metal industries as well as one academic institution, IIT Bombay. All the sectors represented are intense users of energy and are looking to make operations more energy efficient as well as taking a circular approach to the use of materials.
The visit provided the opportunity for the delegation to find out more about the work being undertaken at the University in relation to addressing these challenges as part of the Climate Futures and Digital themes and by the activities of two University world class facilities - The Materials Innovation Factory and The Digital Innovation Facility (DIF).
The delegates heard from academic staff who work on critical sustainability questions related to reducing carbon emissions in both society and in industry.
The Transforming Industries Inward Mission also included sessions led by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority at the Spine and visits to Glass Futures and the Science and Technology Funding Council at Daresbury.
