On Wednesday 6 September, the University of Liverpool Management School hosted its first Business Breakfast of the new academic year in collaboration with Knowsley Chamber Of Commerce and Edge Hill University at the fantastic Shakespeare North Playhouse.
The theme of the event was Social Value - To be, or not to be? and Jackie Davies, Social Economy expert and Senior Lecturer at Edge Hill University gave an engaging presentation about the background journey to her PhD research focusing on the development of the Shakespeare North Playhouse, before outlining the findings and recommendations.
Following the presentation, a breakout session was held where attendees were split into three stakeholder groups: Public Sector bodies, Supply Chain in Contracts and End Users where each group engaged in facilitated discussions about how Social Value could be improved through public procurement.
Lesley Martin-Wright, Chief Executive Officer of Knowsley Chamber of Commerce said “The Shakespeare North Playhouse was a fitting venue as its development was predicated on social value and impact.
“The event saw a fantastic turnout of delegates from the private, public and third sectors which led very meaningful and diverse debates on how to strengthen and maximise social outputs and outcomes. There was certainly a ‘call to action’ with many delegates wanting to be involved in the next steps.”
