Centre for Sports Business hosts first research seminar of 2024
The first Centre for Sports Business research seminar of 2024 saw Dr Brett Abarbanel from the University of Las Vegas, visit Liverpool to deliver a talk on esports, the definition of gambling, and the ecosystem and landscape of gambling, sports, esports and gaming.
During the seminar, Dr Abarbanel covered blending of the concepts of gambling and gaming, spanning from social casino games to esports, virtual reality and in-game payments.
The discussion explored the journey of gambling and gaming convergence internationally, calling on perspectives from esports, sports and gambling.
Dr Abarbanel also reviewed the areas of esports betting and its role in the broader esports ecosystem, skill games, esports and game integrity, and the unique data rights frameworks and applications in esports.
The talk concluded with Dr Abarbanel offering a glimpse into the future, where the intersection between gambling and gaming is showing up in unusual and unexpected ways.
