Brett Centre for Entrepreneurship Runs First Student and Graduate Entrepreneurs Monthly Meet-up for this Academic Year
The Entrepreneurs’ Monthly Meet-up is a University HEIF-funded initiative run by the Brett Centre for Entrepreneurship in collaboration with six colleges and universities in the Liverpool City Region. Its aim is to connect entrepreneurial students/graduates and expose individuals to the very best independent businesses in the city.
The initial Meet-Up took place on Wednesday 26 October in Liverpool Arts Bar on Hope Street. The Founders of Liverpool Arts Bar, Ben Cosgrove and Alex Medlicott, spoke with the student and graduate entrepreneurs about setting up and running the business, as well as their plans to expand into the Baltic Quarter with another Arts Bar in the future. In addition to this, participants were invited to ask the pair questions around starting up, all whilst they enjoyed free refreshments in the Arts Bar and pizza, delivered by local Duke Street based pizzeria Crust Liverpool.
The Entrepreneurs’ Monthly Meet-up runs eight times across the academic year (October-May). This month’s event is being held as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week on Thursday 17 November in The Academy, a training restaurant run by The City of Liverpool College. Students in the college’s School of Hospitality will be cooking all the food and serving refreshments at the upcoming Monthly Meet-up, with the guest entrepreneurship speaker being one of the college’s alumni. He will talk about setting up his successful food-based business in the city.
Commenting on the recent Entrepreneurs’ Monthly Meet-up Richard Leighton, Entrepreneur in Residence at the University of Liverpool Management School, said:
"We were really pleased with the initial Entrepreneurs’ Monthly Meet-up for this academic year with 100 students/graduates signing-up and 50 attending. Liverpool Arts Bar were really awesome hosts and the founders Ben and Alex were very generous with the time and advice they offered to the audience.
"We’re excited for the Entrepreneurs’ Monthly Meet-up in November at The Academy restaurant because it will introduce a new dimension by having the City of Liverpool College students organise and cook/serve the food and refreshments as part of the courses they study. We’re also inviting some of our participating SMEs in the Help to Grow and Growth Catalyst programmes so this will provide a new experience and a great opportunity for the student/graduate entrepreneurs to network with local businesses."
