Undergraduate Mentoring Programme, connecting current students and alumni

The Undergraduate Mentoring Programme connects current students with alumni of the Management School. Students have gained practical advice on career planning and developed their employability skills and professional networks.
Speaking on the benefits of this programme, BA Business Economics student Jess England notes;
“It’s been brilliant working with my mentor, what she had to say was extremely insightful and beneficial! As a second-year student looking for a placement, she gave me lots of confidence going into interviews and how to approach them. “
BSc Economics student Zach Yarnold adds;
“I am incredibly grateful to my mentor for her guidance and support. Her advice on placements was invaluable. She provided tailored insights, practical tips, and encouragement that significantly boosted my confidence in the application process.”
For mentors, the programme has provided an opportunity to stay connected with the Management School, support current students with their career aspirations and refine their coaching skills.
The scheme runs alongside employability and support teams- all of which contribute to the success of students when applying for competitive placements. Recent destinations for undergraduate students have included placements at IBM, KPMG, BDO, The Hut Group, NHS, Deloitte, BMW and Walt Disney.
Speaking on his experience as a mentor, George Lucking, Head of Senior Talent and Resourcing, Office of Government Property reflects on the positive impact our students are already having on industry;
“I was able to talk to my mentee about developments in the management world and their fresh ideas have helped me think differently about problems I am facing at work.”
