The Brett Centre for Entrepreneurship was delighted to welcome Wirral based communications professional, writer and entrepreneur Gill Torres for March’s Entrepreneurs Monthly Meet-up (EMM) which was held at the Novotel Paddington Green on Thursday 27 March.

March’s EMM attended by over 70 students, graduates and local entrepreneurs was a networking special. As the founder of the community magazine and event network Wirral Way, Gill regularly runs networking events and supports clients to improve their communication confidence.

In her facilitated session, Gill highlighted the importance of networking and offered valuable tips on how to increase confidence at networking events. Participants then had a chance to practice networking in a supportive and friendly environment.

In her session, Gill emphasised the importance of:
-    adequate preparation: researching the event and its audience
-    not being afraid to introduce yourself and what you do
-    making the person you are talking to feel like the most important person in the room

Commenting on the night, Giselia Maranhao, self-employed Marketing Communications Consultant said:

“I set myself a challenge: to step out of my comfort zone and actively participate in more networking initiatives. And last week, I took a big step forward by attending the Entrepreneurs Monthly Meet-up promoted by the Brett Centre for Entrepreneurship.

"During the event, Gill Torres shared her inspiring journey and highlighted the importance of networking, offering valuable tips on how to make the most of these interactions.  This was my first networking event since setting this challenge for myself, and I couldn’t help but ask: why are we still afraid of networking?

"By the end of the night, I was grateful for all the insights I had gained. I immediately put the advice into practice, engaged in great conversations, learned from other people's experiences, and received invaluable guidance on overcoming professional challenges.”

If you are based in Liverpool, interested in entrepreneurship, and networking with entrepreneurs, our next FREE Entrepreneurs Monthly Meet-up takes place on Thursday 1 May. This EMM is focused on the charity sector and should appeal to those who are either involved in or are interested in setting up a charitable foundation or pursuing a career in charity.
