The latest Business Breakfast on Imposter Syndrome

Published on

The University of Liverpool Management School held its latest Business Breakfast ‘Imposter Syndrome & You’ on Wednesday 8 February 2025.

The event welcomed 70 members of the business community to the Old Hall at Bruntwood Sci-tech’s Cotton Exchange site to learn about the who, what and why of those 'Imposter' feelings where knowledgeable speakers shared their insights and experiences, providing the audience with a well-rounded view of the topic.

Martine Gibson MBACP began sharing a high-quality summary of Imposter Syndrome, sharing her personal and professional experiences in a light-hearted, accessible way.

Rian Bailey-Weir and Clare Ellis continued and went on to share their 'Spotlight' on the topic, giving the information provided by Martine an authentic, real-world framing.

Sharon Cooksey rounded off the session by sharing a first look at some of her PhD research relating to 'Imposter feelings' in relation to high achievers and further contextualised the information shared throughout.

Key takeaways from the session reflected in feedback:

  • Remember to check in with yourself
  • Control the negative narrative: your brain cannot distinguish between what is real and what is imagined
  • Use the STOPP technique: Stop, Take a breath, Observe, Pull it back and Put it into practice
  • Seek positive feedback from others
  • Celebrate wins - no matter how small
  • Practice being confident, it is a skill.

Takudzwa Nyauswa shared his experience of the event on LinkedIn:
