Management School hosts COIL 2025 inviting students from HWR Berlin

The University of Liverpool Global Opportunities Team and the University of Liverpool Management School (ULMS) recently hosted a successful COIL event in January 2025.
COIL or Collaborative Online International Learning program is a collaboration between ULMS and HWR Berlin which includes a series of sessions exploring the digital environment and innovation.
This year’s hybrid event titled Digital Communication Skills in a Digital Economy took place on 7, 9, 17 and 18 January involving a variety of virtual and in-person sessions.
The first session began with speed networking followed by engaging lectures from ULMS and HWR Berlin colleagues on key concepts like Generative AI, Social Media Marketing and Electronic Word of Mouth.
The in-person lectures were delivered by the Management School's Dr Severina Cartwright, Senior Lecturer in Marketing and Global Opportunities Academic Lead.
On the final day, students had the opportunity to present their ideas in Dragons’ Den-style pitches and received feedback from a jury consisting of faculty members from ULMS and HWR Berlin.
There were four participating student groups with the winner being announced as Grovi, comprised of students from both the Management School and HWR Berlin students, who impressed judges with their AI-led plant care device (pictured below).
Dr Severina also said "This COIL program is a testament to the power of collaboration in a global, digital economy. It not only equips students with cutting-edge insights but also fosters innovation and teamwork by challenging them to create real-world solutions.
“The opportunity to connect virtually and in person, culminating in a Dragons’ Den-style pitch, showcases the importance of bridging academic knowledge with practical application, preparing students for the future of work."
These sessions gave students the opportunity to collaborate face-to-face and strengthen their connections. “I think it’s quite interesting to have this international collaboration event, l learned a lot throughout the process!”, said Rhea, a final year Business Management student from our 2+2 programme. For students like Hedyen (third-year Business Administration, HWR Berlin), the overall experience was ‘amazing’.
