Innovate UK award-winning entrepreneur, Dr Omar Khaled Elsayed, from the University of Liverpool Management School’s (ULMS) Operations and Supply Chain Management (OSCM) Group, has been nominated for Innovator of the Year in the 2025 Liverpool City Region Culture and Creativity Awards.

Over 600 nominations were submitted and the independent judging panel whittled this down to a shortlist of 54 finalists across 15 categories, from Inspirational Young Person to Outstanding Achievement.

Omar’s nomination is a result of his transformative contributions to healthcare and education, particularly through his entrepreneurial venture from last year, Droovy Ltd., an award-winning generative AI platform to treat alcohol dependency through personalised exposure therapy.

His innovative platform has the potential to greatly minimise alcohol-related harm and substantially reduce the NHS’s annual relapse costs, which are currently estimated at £3.5 billion.

Outside the healthcare sector, Omar also has a growing list of achievements and significant contributions to academia.

He has earned recognition from highly reputable organisations, such as the UK Research and Innovation and Times Higher Education, and is also credited with designing MSc AI for Digital Business, ULMS’s new master’s programme which harnesses the power of artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies to meet contemporary business needs.

In addition, Omar successfully secured two prestigious Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs), with Kays Medical which centre around the inventive ways AI and gamification can be applied to advance first aid training.

Alongside Omar, Craig Grainer and Denise Jones are other names in contention for the Innovation of the Year award.

From the Management School, we want to wish Omar the best of luck! The winners of the 2025 Liverpool City Region Culture and Creativity Awards will be announced in March at New Brighton’s Floral Pavilion, Wirral — this year’s Borough of Culture.
