Management School host successful marketing career panel
In November, the University of Liverpool Management School hosted an inspiring Marketing Career Evening, bringing together undergraduate students, alumni and industry professionals.
The event provided an opportunity for attendees to gain a deeper understanding of the dynamic marketing industry, discover diverse career paths and learn strategies for successfully navigating the job and placement search process.
Before the panel discussion, students were welcomed by Stuart Nicholls, Employability Officer at the University of Liverpool Management School, who delivered a presentation on finding marketing roles and understanding graduate destinations and career outcomes in the marketing industry.
Stuart highlighted the support available to students through the Management School's bespoke Employability Team, including tailored CV advice, interview preparation and one-to-one guidance designed to help students stand out in a competitive job market.
The evening then featured a panel of speakers who shared their career journeys, experiences in the field and practical advice for budding marketers.
Among the panellists were Jessica Morley, a final-year Marketing student and former Marketing Intern at PZ Cussons; Jared Carver, a final-year Marketing student and former Marketing Intern at Siemens Digital Industries Software; Ellie Marlow, Marketing and Communications Officer at The Learning Foundry; Amy Peebles, Social Media Manager at Love2Shop, and Lindsey Moore, Founder of Agnes Marketing.
The speakers shared their experiences, emphasizing the importance of internships, networking and embracing opportunities to build confidence and skills. Discussions covered emerging trends like AI in marketing, transitioning into specialized roles like SEO, and practical advice on using tools like Google Digital Garage and LinkedIn to stay competitive.
Alumni speaker Ellie Marlow said “Two years on, feeling proud and grateful to head back to the University of Liverpool, telling my story about how I made it happen. It was genuinely interesting to learn from people at both ends of the career spectrum about what they’re doing to make it happen for them, too.”
Heather Gibb, another marketing student and attendee, reflected on the value of the event, saying, "I learned so much from industry professionals and gained valuable insights from previous Year in Industry students who shared their experiences and knowledge from their career journeys. I feel even more motivated and excited to pursue a Year in Industry in a Marketing Placement."
Thank you to all the attendees who came along and the speakers for sharing their insights and advice with our marketing students.
