The October’s Entrepreneurs Monthly Meet-up (EMM), welcomed Creative AF Founder and University of Liverpool (UoL) alumnus, Adam Faulkner, who shared his journey to successfully develop a freelance career.

Hosted by the Brett Centre for Entrepreneurship (BCfE) at the newly established Sir Peter Rigby Centre for Enterprise, this exciting session offered students from different universities the chance to learn more and ask questions about opportunities and challenges in freelancing.

During the event, organised by BCfE Entrepreneur in Residence, Richard Leighton, Adam spoke about the steps he has taken to go from having little experience as an entrepreneur during the COVID19 pandemic, to building a successful freelance video production company.

As well as sharing the lessons he has learnt along the way, Adam explained how his entrepreneurial skills have allowed him to gain the trust of locals and international clients, such as Sipsmith, DA-SH and The Snaffling Pig Co.

The audience was also introduced to some of the tools that Adam has developed to inspire and support the next generation of freelancers.

These include Be Freelance AF, a bite sized course on how to set up and market a freelance business and his LinkedIn Level Up short course on how to transform a business’s LinkedIn profile to generate leads for sales growth.

Following Adam’s talk, UoL Entrepreneurship and Start-up Project Officer, Benjamin Dalton, took to the stage to explain how his team supports our students and graduates with all aspects of planning their career journey, including becoming an entrepreneur.

After the presentations, attendees were given the chance to take part in a prize draw to win a Be Freelance AF course, followed by lots of informal networking with pizza.

Commenting on the latest EMM, Adam said “the event that Richard has put together is nothing short of fantastic.”

“It was a pleasure to be part of it, especially as a former University of Liverpool student turned business owner.

“The turnout was fabulous and the audience was super engaged and sociable, which made it a brilliant evening all around.

“But what I loved most was hearing about the students' businesses and dreams for the future.

“There are some young people who will go on to big things - I have no doubt.”
