On Friday 8 November 2024, the University of Liverpool Management School brought together a mix of current MBA students and alumni for a day of networking and learning.

Held at the Brett Building, the event was an opportunity for the Class of 2025 to enhance their networking and communication skills while engaging with experienced professionals.

The event kicked off with an insightful session led by Sue Tonks (keynote speaker and trainer) which provided the current MBA students with valuable perspectives on the power of networking in today’s business environment.

Through this session, students gained insights on how to effectively network, build long-lasting professional relationships and leverage their connections for career advancement.

Bernadette Lyons, Lead Coach MBA Future Leaders Programme said: “This event was designed for our MBAs to articulate their narrative with clarity and impact.

"Our MBAs are already experienced professionals and accustomed to making professional connections, but they want their MBA to leverage their careers onto a new level, to challenge themselves even further.

“To pivot successfully into a more senior role, perhaps in a new sector, industry or country, this event offered a deeper exploration of how to connect effectively and articulate their value proposition.”

The day concluded with a keynote speech from Andrew Thorp, a renowned business storytelling expert. Andrew’s talk focused on the power of storytelling in business, teaching attendees how to craft and deliver compelling narratives that can elevate their professional presence and impact.

Drawing on real-world examples, he explained how mastering storytelling techniques can help leaders and professionals engage their audiences, influence decision-making, and communicate with greater clarity.

Current MBA student Shadab Ahmed said: “Friday’s Networking Masterclass with Sue Tonks and a keynote by Andrew Thorp emphasized the importance of storytelling and connection.

"Meeting alumni like Jenna Birch, Kamla Levers (from the first MBA batch), Soham Sarkar, and Jeremy Myers (MBA, 1995) was such a highlight.

"Their stories of transformation and growth were not only inspiring but also a reminder of how far the university and the world have come.”

The event was a great success, with both current students and alumni leaving with new connections and valuable knowledge to apply in their professional careers.
