As part of their professional learning and development on the course, MSc Business Analytics and Big Data students from the University of Liverpool Management School (ULMS) recently visited the Airbus site in Broughton, Chester.

The 6,000 personnel at the site are responsible for designing, testing and manufacturing the wings for most of the aerospace company’s commercial aircraft.

The students went on a two-hour tour of the A350 Wing Production Facility, a fantastic opportunity which gave them a first-hand glimpse into Airbus’s assembly process and supply chain. Here, the students explored the production line, observing the wings as they progressed through the manufacturing process.

Afterwards, members of the Airbus Team delivered an insightful talk on how Airbus harnesses the power of business analytics and big data to achieve greater performance.

MSc Business Analytics and Big Data student Abhishek Navle said: “The facility demonstrates how data-driven analytics enhance efficiency across the value chain, from supplier management to production line optimisation.”

“This visit underscored how cutting-edge technologies are reshaping aerospace manufacturing, driving unprecedented levels of efficiency, quality, and innovation in high-tech production environments.”

After the tour, the students spoke with Airbus staff who offered career advice on the opportunities available at Airbus. They also shared suggestions on how to successfully apply for these roles based on their personal experiences.

Commenting on the experience, student Desmond Ling, said: “The Airbus tour was an amazing experience overall as it gave me greater insights into the manufacturing process of parts for Airbus planes and how the company uses data analytics in its production to optimise and make informative decisions.”

“Furthermore, the employees at Airbus were very welcoming and informative during the tour and were eager to answer any questions that the group had.”
