The University of Liverpool has risen 10 places in the QS World University Rankings: Europe 2025, moving into the top 50 of European universities.

QS World Rankings: Europe 2025 was introduced in 2023 to focus exclusively on European universities. Its results are based on an institution’s score under five key themes: Research and Discovery, Employability and Outcomes, Learning Experience, Global Engagement and Sustainability.

The University has placed 49th overall following last year’s entry into the new league table at 59th. The 2025 rankings include 685 universities across Europe, of which 103 are in the UK.

The University has seen a particularly strong performance in indicators including Sustainability (24th overall and 19th in the UK) and International Research Network (26th overall and 12th in the UK). It has also seen improvements in its ranking for Academic Reputation, Citations Per Paper and International Faculty Ratio (the proportion of faculty members who are international).

The results are based on data obtained in the recent QS World University Rankings, which drew on the expert opinions of more than 240,000 academic faculty and employers. The European rankings however apply a different methodology to the data, to draw out the themes and indicators most relevant to European universities.

In June the University was placed 165th in the QS World University Rankings 2025, an improvement of 11 places in one year.
