MBA candidates’ journey concludes with Transition Week
An integral part of their holistic career and professional development support, MBA candidates from the University of Liverpool Management School (ULMS) have recently completed their Transition Week — an event packed week of activities to bolster their employability and support their progression from global MBA learners to industry leaders.
The aims of the week are to support our MBAs to:
- have the tools, knowledge and resources to make a successful career transition following their course
- reflect on their learning and articulate clearly to employers the significant value-added
- strengthen the cohort's sense of community as lifelong members of our Alumni family.
During the week, our MBAs had an opportunity to put their consultancy skills into practice outside of the classroom, invited by Alumnus and Managing Director of Liverpool’s Cain’s Brewery Village Harj Dusanj who recently attracted BOXPARK to the city. Candidates utilised their consultancy learning in a high-impact, live business environment, helping them to realise the practical application of their MBA in the open market and boosting their confidence as professional consultants.
We also welcomed Lily Newman, ex-BBC Journalist, a Behavioural Strategist & Leadership Consultant, and the founder of Morgan James Consulting to the Brett building. Lily brought energy and insights to guiding our candidates through deeper reflections and an opportunity to articulate and perfect their personal brand - and having fun doing it!
To further deepen our connection to the city’s business community, our MBAs were given the VIP treatment with a Talk and Tour of the Arena and Convention Centre (ACC). Faye Dyer, Chief Executive Officer and Kerry Villa, Chief Finance Officer guided our MBAs through a journey of leadership and corporate resilience during their talk on navigating the pandemic.
Throughout their programme, our MBAs have the support of our dedicated Career Coach Bernadette Lyons, providing specialist support with CV writing, job applications, research tools, LinkedIn as well as psychometric profiling and feedback plus a personalised career plan. Reflecting on the week, Bernadette said,
‘Our MBAs are constantly busy ‘doing’. This is a time at the end of formal teaching for them to take stock, take time to appreciate the skills and behaviours they have developed, and then clearly articulate them to future employers and networks.’
To top off an exciting week, MBAs took part in a fun and dynamic team-building event linked to the city, further deepening our MBAs’ attachment to their cohort, our vibrant city, and our School’s 35,000-strong global Alumni community.
Support from start to finish
The MBA journey is developed with a holistic approach to candidates’ career advancement. We suport our MBAs throughout their programme. This starts with Foundations Week in September, where candidates take part in welcome activities designed to get them acclimated to their new academic environment.
Foundations Week immerses our candidates in their programme and the MBA mindset before formal academic teaching begins. Activities include networking events with their peers, a walk through the programme and university facilities, getting to know their MBA team, through to workshops intended to fine-tune their academic skills and develop their critical thinking abilities.
Throughout their programme, MBAs have an abundance of opportunities to help their transformation as strategic leaders, including MBA Guest Speaker Sessions, Business Breakfasts and European study trip.
These carefully thought-out extracurricular activities, underpinned by a dynamic and intensive MBA programme support our ULMS standing as one of the world’s top business schools. For the eighth year in a row, ULMS has been awarded Tier One status in the 2024 CEO Magazine Global MBA Rankings for our on-campus MBA programme.
