Management School’s LAMBDA Research Cluster hosts workshop on 'Machine Learning and High Dimensional Analysis'
The University of Liverpool Management School, through its Liverpool Advanced Methods for Big Data Analytics (LAMBDA) Research Cluster, welcomed over 30 delegates from various educational institutions to its recent 'Machine Learning and High Dimensional Analysis' workshop on Monday 22 April 2024.
Led by Professor Abderrahim Taamouti, Director of the LAMBDA Research Cluster, the one-day workshop facilitated an exploration of the application of advanced algorithms for understanding large and complex datasets in social sciences, with an overarching goal to contribute to the development of robust and efficient tools for improved decision-making.
Abderrahim was joined by his fellow leading academic professionals Jeroen Rombouts and Roberto Renò, both from ESSEC Business School, Anders Kock from the University of Oxford and Valentina Corradi from the University of Surrey who offered highly insightful talks covering a variety of topics, ranging from predictability to inference in high-dimensional data.
Participants acquired valuable insights into the application of machine learning for monitoring demand forecasts using Platform Data Streams and valid inference for hypothesis testing within the context of high-dimensional data.
Additionally, the discussions on monitoring growth and inflation risks as well as detecting trends in high-frequency stock prices provided attendees with practical tools and methodologies to analyse economic and financial datasets with greater caution.
Overall, the session served as a rich platform for interdisciplinary exchange, fostering a deeper understanding of the intersection between machine learning/high-dimensional approaches and complex data analysis.
Reflecting on the workshop, Abderrahim remarked, "The engagement and enthusiasm demonstrated by the delegates underscore the significance of bridging the gap between theory and practice in the realm of high-dimensional analysis."
The event received positive turnout and feedback, with participants commending the workshop’s well-structured content and delivery. One of the attendees, Dr Mohamed Doukali, said:
“It was a wonderful experience with an amazing programme and great speakers. The workshop was very well organised, both logistically and in terms of its contents. I am looking forward to attending the next LAMBDA workshop.''
Join our LAMBDA Roundtable
Following the success of our LAMBDA workshop, we are organising another event, 'AI: Benefits and Challenges for Business' Roundtable on Friday 7 June 2024, where industry experts will debate the latest challenges and opportunities for integrating AI-powered technologies for businesses.
As well as gaining invaluable insights from academic professionals and industry leaders, the roundtable discussion provides a unique opportunity for asking questions, networking and nurturing research collaborations.
Our upcoming event is free and welcomes all staff, students, alumni, business leaders and policymakers who want to better understand and find solutions to the present and future challenges of integrating AI into business operations.
