BA Marketing students go behind the scenes at Matalan
Current BA Marketing students recently visited Matalan's head office in Knowsley.
During the visit students met teams from different office departments who gave insight into the range of roles available at Matalan and also got an insider tour of the Support Hub and Distribution centre.
Organised in partnership with Matalan’s Early Careers and Apprenticeship Advisor, Melissa Parlour and Alumni Engagement Officer at the University of Liverpool, Samantha Riella, this visit highlights the strong industry links the Management School has, that benefit students studying with us.
Students met Zara Johnson who is currently on her Year in Industry Marketing Industrial placement at Matalan. Zara talked about her experience so far, noting how she has had the opportunity to work with lots of different teams and developed key skills needed to succeed on graduation. During her time at Matalan she has grown in confidence and has also had the chance to work with some high- profile influencers.
Current student Joshua Cadman said “The experience of being shown around the various facets of production, including marketing and distribution centres, was incredibly enlightening. Witnessing firsthand the intricate processes involved in bringing products to market provided invaluable insights into the complexities of the industry. The knowledge gained during this trip will undoubtedly serve as a solid foundation for my future endeavours in marketing and business.”
Zoe Gibbard also commented “I found it really eye-opening to be able to see how every department interlinks, with everything from design to analytics, and marketing. We a gained some useful tips for applying to placements from Zara. I found the tour of the distribution centre interesting, as even just the sheer size shows how much logistical planning it takes to operate the retail giant, enabling them to correctly produce and distribute orders for the right place at the right time.”
