Management School hosts Business Breakfast: "Unleashing the Power of Women in the Liverpool City Region."
The University of Liverpool Management School welcomed over 50 local businesses to its latest Business Breakfast “Unleashing the Power of Women in the Liverpool City Region” on Wednesday 27 March 2024 at The Women’s Organisation.
The session focused on the challenges faced by women throughout their career timeline, and strategies for employers to support and empower women in the workforce. Our first speaker, Ian Burn (Professor of Economics, ULMS) focused his presentation on how gender inequality in the labour market evolves over the life course and is driven by different factors at different ages.
We then welcomed Dawn Paine, CEO and Co-Founder of Aurora, who shared insights from her own career and challenges she has faced as a woman in leadership. Her presentation covered gender equality as an unending challenge, menopause policy and the importance of male allyship.
We also learnt about the impactful work of WACL (Women in Advertising & Communications Leadership), a membership organisation whose purpose is to accelerate gender equality in the advertising and communications industries.
The Q&A session at the end was very successful, allowing room for some interesting discussion - Hazel Kennedy, External Engagement Manager at the Management School said reflecting on the event:
“It was a privilege to host this event at The Woman’s Organisation and hear from our two speakers, who gave insightful presentations. The research and data outlined by Ian Burn demonstrated there’s still more to do in encouraging equity for all workers. Dawn’s presentation focussed on some examples of lived experiences but also celebrated success stories to inspire the next generation of workers in our city region and beyond.”
