Punitha Battu and Vedaant Lohia, course representatives for the MSc Human Resource Management programme, share their experiences organising a special social event for their classmates:

The conclusion of Semester 1 saw us navigating through a whirlwind of deadlines, late nights, and perhaps a few caffeine-induced moments of stress. Amid impending exams, and as class representatives, we conceived a visionary plan – "Bridging the Gap." This social event aimed to break the ice, foster connections, and emphasise that even business students deserve a bit of enjoyment!

Our initial step involved seeking guidance from the experienced minds of our Director of Studies, Dr Yaru Chen, and Deputy Director of Studies, Dr Trisha Chauhan. Their invaluable insights, coupled with the final approval from Associate Dean (Postgraduate) Jason Laws, propelled us into action.

Understanding our classmates' desires was paramount. Armed with data gathered through a comprehensive Google form covering favourite tunes, games, and culinary preferences, we then enlisted the expertise of our remarkable senior and former class representative, Krishnanjana, who adeptly guided us through the planning labyrinth whenever challenges arose.

Addressing the financial aspect, we collaborated with the on-campus catering team, meticulously calculated the budget, and presented our proposal to Jason Law. With the budget secured, we were poised to transform the School’s atrium space into a haven of semester-ending revelry!

The planning process itself became a crash course in multitasking and effective management. Balancing event logistics with academic deadlines tested our time-management skills, but every late-night brainstorming session proved worthwhile.

Finally, the day of the event arrived. The atrium hummed with anticipation as students flocked in, enticed by the promise of music, games, and delectable fare. The atmosphere, initially charged with nervous excitement, soon transformed into one of laughter, friendly banter, and a shared sense of camaraderie. Games were played, stories were exchanged, and hidden talents amongst our classmates were uncovered. It served as a heart-warming reminder that beyond the academic grind, we were not just students; we were a dynamic community bound by shared experiences and a passion for (perhaps not always) management.

"Bridging the Gap" exceeded our wildest expectations. It transcended being merely an event; it was a celebration of friendships formed, memories crafted, and stress obliterated. As the final notes of the music faded away, we recognised that we had created something truly special – an experience that would linger with us long after the exams concluded.

So, here's to "Bridging the Gap," to forging new connections, and to proving that even the most dedicated minds can host a party for the ages. Cheers to the semester that has been and the thrilling adventures awaiting us in the next chapter!
