The Entrepreneurs’ Monthly Meet-up is a University HEIF-funded initiative run by the Brett Centre for Entrepreneurship in collaboration with six colleges and universities across the Liverpool City Region. The aim of the events is to connect entrepreneurial students and graduates and expose individuals to the very best independent businesses in the city.

The Entrepreneurs’ Monthly Meet-up runs eight times across the academic year with the February edition being ran in collaboration with The Athenaeum, one of Liverpool’s oldest Private Members Club.

This month’s meet-up took place on Thursday 23 February in the Newsroom of the club and began with past Athenaeum president, Mike Shankland, speaking to the group about the establishment of the club in Liverpool, as well as the purpose and history of the institute. Following that two of the club’s entrepreneurial members, Phil Speakman and Alex Lennon, spoke to participants about starting-up and running successful businesses with the opportunity for individuals to ask questions.

With over 80 guests in attendance, the group went on a tour around the building including a visit to the club's library. The space itself includes a collection of 60,000 volumes of books that in many cases charts the history of Liverpool and also includes collections of pictures, ephemera associated with the city, maps and charts and an extensive array of periodicals and journals. The session then concluded with networking and refreshments.

The Entrepreneurs Monthly Meet-up continues to grow and develop its success and community with the fifth meet-up attracting the highest number of participants across the eight run to date. Since the first event in October, a total of 450 people have participated and attended the events.
