ULMS Study Abroad “Springs” into action with multiple COIL Projects
Following the success of The ULMS | UGA Collaborative Online International Learning Project (COIL) with The University of Georgia last year; the ULMS Study Abroad Team have been working on new projects for this academic year, for both UG and PG students.
Dr Severina Cartwright, lecturer in Marketing, supported by Aimee Neil from the Global Opportunities Team, ran the Digital Communication Skills in a Digital Economy COIL project with colleagues from ULMS Study Abroad partner, The Berlin School of Economics & Law (BSE). During this week-long intensive project (17 – 21 January), 3rd year BA Marketing students from ULMS and BSE attended joint lectures, enjoyed guest speakers from industry and worked on a team project that saw them build incredible websites for new business ventures and present their ideas.
Dr Cartwright said: “The COIL between BSE and ULMS has been exceptional. It was a great opportunity for students to gain international and intercultural experiences as well as gain digital employability skills. The students were absolutely outstanding with incredible skills. I truly enjoyed leading the project and look forward to more virtual exchanges”.
The close of the Berlin project provided little rest bite for the team; as students from the MBA, THIMBA and FIMBA programmes joined colleagues from the Indian Institute of Management Indore, for another week-long project (24 January - 28 January). Lead by Dr Dane Anderton, and supported by Professor Terry McNulty and Bernie Lyons, alongside colleagues from Indore – MBA students wrestled with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, (UN SDG) providing insight and recommendations on how academia and industry are moving forward in these areas.
Dr Dane Anderton said: “Sustainability is high on every organisation’s agenda at the moment and rightly so! We are proud to have worked on an innovate project to bringing ULMS and IIM Indore MBA candidates together in a collaborative online environment to research solutions to the UNSGDs. The aim of this project is to equip our future leaders to bring the thought leadership required to make the decisions that matter to people plant and profit”
The ULMS Study Abroad Team, have now turned their attention to the next COIL project with the University of Georgia. Support by the Directors of Study from the BA Marketing, BA Business Management and BA International Business programmes, the project which runs from January to April 2022 will see undergraduate students from all years of study also tackle the UN SDG’s. Students will focus their attention on how companies from the Liverpool and Georgia regions can have a real impact by aligning their Corporate Sustainability Strategies with their chosen UN SDG.
