Collaborative Online International Learning project concludes
The ULMS Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) project concluded on Friday 9 April with “The Blazers” coming out on top after pitching their ideas to a panel of academic and alumni judges.
COVID-19 has made it difficult for students to gain an international learning experience year. So that they can gain some of the skills they would usually get during study abroad, Dr Ahmed Al-Abdin (Director of Studies BA Marketing), Dr Jason MacVaugh (Director of Studies BA Business Management) and John Green (Study Abroad) have been working with colleagues from the University of Georgia’s (UGA) Terry College of Business to set up the project.
Students from both ULMS and UGA worked in mixed teams to solve one of five business problems related to Marketing, HR, Supply Chain and Logistics. They produced a proposal, a written paper and a marketing style video; with the top five teams going into a grand finale to pitch their ideas to a panel of judges made up of colleagues from both universities. Representing ULMS on the panel was Paul Matthews (Lecturer in Marketing), Ms Beth Foy (ULMS Alumni and Business Design Analyst for Nationwide Building Society), and Ms Layla Al-Azzawe (Consultant Risk Advisor for Deloitte).
As a result of the project, students have gained intercultural communication, presentation and team working skills whilst having to navigate time zones and cultural differences.
