Gavin Brown, Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Financial Technology, has been appointed as a Research Fellow to The Digital Euro Association.

The Digital Euro Association is a think tank specialising in cryptoassets, stablecoins, central bank digital currencies (CBDC), and other forms of digital money.  The organisation’s mission is to contribute to the public and political discourse through research, education, and by providing a platform for discussion and a community for policy-makers, technologists, and economists.

Research Fellows consist of practitioners and academics within the field of digital money placing Gavin amongst a European community of experts within this not-for-profit think tank.

Gavin commented "It is an honour to be appointed as a Research Fellow to The Digital Euro Association. This leading international platform will ensure that The University Liverpool will have a significant research voice in the future of money alongside my existing work with The d-GBP (digital pound) Initiative."

At a recent business breakfast event, hosted by the Management School and Growth Platform, Gavin discussed the role which Financial Technology can play in helping the Liverpool City Region build back better through social mobility and inclusivity enabling recovery and growth.  He also delivered a session as part of ‘The Future of…’ seminar series – a research and knowledge exchange between the University of Liverpool, HMRC and HMT.  The seminar provided an introduction to cryptoassets, advancements in Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDC's), developments in corporate ‘currencies’ such as Facebook's Diem and the move towards Decentralised Finance (DeFi)

Gavin Brown is Director of Studies for a brand-new MSc Financial Technology programme launching at The University of Liverpool Management School this September, where he will lead on the teaching of modules specialising in digital assets as well as the future of money, banking and global payment systems.
