Management School student wins McKinsey consulting competition
Final year BA International Business student, Lukas Tabak, was recently crowned the winner of the McKinsey Solve IT 2020 competition.
McKinsey & Company is a management consulting firm that advises on strategic management to corporations, governments, and other organisations. From the C-suite to the front line, McKinsey partners with clients to transform their organisations, embed technology into everything they do, and build enduring capabilities.
The competition, which Lukas took part in with a team of friends, provides students and young professionals with consulting experience by helping a real-world organisation address some of its current strategic and operational challenges.
The company involved in this year’s competition was prg.ai which has a mission to transform Prague to a world-class AI Superhub.
Lukas commented, “It was an amazing experience for me because of the steep learning curve that I experienced. Cracking the intensive challenge for a week with my friends helped me to understand what are my strengths and weaknesses. Also, I learnt a lot about the consulting industry and also about the AI environment in Prague that interests me.
I believe that these types of competition, that push students to their limits, are certainly a great opportunity for them to grow and I can only prove that!”
Professor Nikolaos Papageorgiadis, Director of Studies BA International Business, commented “Students on our International Business programme are strongly encouraged to participate in such highly reputed global initiatives and competitions. Further to providing them with a fantastic experience to apply the knowledge and skills that they learn during their studies, it also helps their future career prospects.
I am delighted to see that despite COVID19, our students actively engaged in many competitions in 2020 and Lukas was successful in winning the McKinsey SolveIT competition. Congratulations Lukas!”
After an initial application stage, the competition consisted of a further two rounds which required teams to complete an assignment based on a key challenge facing the non-profit’s leadership. During the second round, students had the opportunity to work with McKinsey consultants before presenting their solutions to a panel of consultants and non-profit leaders.
The prize for the winning team included £300 for each member and the team building with the McKinsey consultants.
