Scholarship holders attend virtual welcome event
Scholarship holders from the Management School’s postgraduate programmes were recently invited to attend a virtual welcome event hosted by Professor Julia Balogun, Dean of the School.
The event was an opportunity for students, who joined the School in October, to celebrate their achievement and meet other scholarship holders from across the School’s postgraduate programmes. They were able to network with the Directors of Studies and meet Professor Lisa Anderson, Associate Dean Postgraduate, and Professor Stephen Woods, Associate Dean MBA.
David Cockayne, Director of Studies MSc Sports Business and Management, commented “Although still on Zoom, it was nice to chat outside of the ‘classzoom’ and get to know students from my own and other programmes, as well as some new members of staff who joined since the first lockdown!”
Ruchika Kulkarni, MSc Economics student, said “Amidst the chaos of a pandemic, it was refreshing to meet fellow scholarship holders and members of the ULMS community! Despite being virtual, it was a beautiful opportunity to network and connect with students from different backgrounds and programmes. Looking forward to many more in the future!"
During the event, students heard from Nia Evans, Alumni Engagement Manager for the Management School, who introduced them to the alumni community and how they can get involved during their programme. Nia then played a special video message from alumna and former scholarship recipient, Iulia Serban (MSc Finance 2019).
Following on from this, a second welcome event was held for students commencing one of the November master’s programmes. The event followed a similar format and allowed attendees to network with peers who were also new to the School.
Jannat Javed, MSc Accounting and Finance student, commented "Coronavirus crisis is altering our life as we know it. The Management School scholarship welcome event was an appreciable initiative during these tiring times and a great chance to meet my fellow scholars. Hoping for more such interactive sessions. See you all soon"
Sowmya Varunkumar, MSc Business Analytics and Big Data , said “Amidst the pandemic and uncertainties, all that we need is kind words of appreciation & motivation which can increase our morale. It’s such a bliss to hear that we are recognised by such a revered University in the name of the Future Leaders Scholarship. The speech delivered made us feel even more responsible on what we can give back to the society.
The event turned out to be my ray of sunshine and I am very proud that I am part of esteemed ULMS.”
